Beauty in Aging

September 29, 2023November 9, 2023 E. Lewis
Sedum - Stonecrop. AKA "Live Forever." One plant in multiple stages of blossom, from just buds and freshly budding light purple flowers in the background to brown and purple fading blossoms in the foreground.

I was pondering the beauty in aging during the month of May. May holds the highest quantity of my family’s birthdays: mother, father, sister, niece. It also marks the homegoing of my father and of course, May also hosts Mother’s Day.
This Mother’s Day was the first one during which my mom was living in our household. . .

Basil and the Fire Ants

September 26, 2023November 9, 2023 E. Lewis
Basil freshly picked, rinsed, sitting on paper towel on kitchen counter. Leaves facing the viewer, stainless steel sink barely visible in background.

Basil is easy enough to grow. But I did everything wrong this year that you could possibly do to basil:
Constantly wet the leaves when watering.
Watered frequently in the evening.
Didn’t pinch it back. At all.
Didn’t manage the pests.
Plus, it was HOT.

Lentil Soup – Vegan, or Not!

September 22, 2023November 9, 2023 E. Lewis
Lentil soup in a brown rimmed aqua bowl outside, white inside, on an old Corelle plate rimmed with green deoration. Potato chips on the side of the bowl, on the plate.

A hearty reminder to be content with what we have, embrace our heritage, and be willing to try out new things –
no matter what life is dishing out at the moment!

The Power of Pioneering

September 19, 2023January 22, 2024 E. Lewis
Three flower bouquets. Left and featured, yellow roses, red/orange fringed petals, with baby's breath. Upper right, traditional mix of red and pink roses with baby's breath. Lower right, bouquet-style sunflowers with fluffy greenery as filler.

When we tap into the power of pioneering, we are better able to nuture body, soul, spirit, and our “can-do” attitude! Let’s encourage those around us to go for it as well. God is for us!

The Most Important Thing

September 8, 2023November 9, 2023 E. Lewis
Clouds in blue sky, forming the features of a man's eyes, face, nose, and either very long whiskers or some version of wings.

In these times of shifting economic, political, and moral sands, we must remember to put our focus on the most important thing.

The Washing of the Water!

September 5, 2023November 9, 2023 E. Lewis
Spray from a hose blasting an okra plant. A double rainbow is visible to the left. A trashcan / rain barrel is in the background.

In my last post, I told you briefly about the farmer ants, who were responsible for destroying my first okra harvest, by aphids. Boy, ants are smart.

But they are not smarter than us. A quick blast of water took care of them, both ants and aphids. But the ants came right back to try to set up their farm operation again.
